Interests:
American retailing has been saturated for the past decade. Through various projects I have investigated ways to improve retail profitability through effective advertising, merchandising, and buying. Other studies have been conducted to investigate the effectiveness of institutional advertising, reasons that consumers "walk out" without making purchases, levels of desired customer service, and differences between expected and perceived customer services. I am also interested in public policy influences on the textiles and apparel industries. Specifically, treaties such as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the Uruguay Round of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) are serious concerns to domestic textile and apparel industries. Prior to NAFTA implementation, studies were conducted to determine how the phase in period, and eventually the agreement, would effect these industries. Trading patterns with partners such as Mexico, the Caribbean, and European Union have been explored to increase opportunities and identify threats for US manufacturers.
