Majors

These majors meet diverse career interests within the rapidly changing field of foods and nutrition. All three majors lead to a Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences.

Dietetics - The Dietetics major is the first step to becoming a registered dietitian. Registered dietitians find careers with physicians, in food companies, hospitals, public health, extension, government, wellness programs, and education.
Nutrition Science - The Nutrition Science major is designed for the science-oriented student. This major provides an excellent background for entry into medical, dental, pharmacy, veterinary school, or other graduate programs in the biological and health sciences.
Consumer Foods - Consumer Foods majors apply knowledge about foods and food ingredients to food selection, preparation, home processing and the storage and serving of safe food to consumers. These professionals manage restaurants and institutional food service facilities, work in business-- food marketing and sales, public relations, test kitchens and quality control-- and serve as food and nutrition educators in non-clinical settings.

Minors

These minors allow students to tailor their academic backgrounds to meet specific career or professional goals. The Consumer Foods minor is well-suited for majors in Child and Family Development, Media/Communications, Consumer Journalism, Consumer Economics, Health Promotions and Behavior, Food Science and Management. A Nutrition Science minor complements majors in the biological sciences as well as pre-med and pre-phramacy.
